OnePlus, the Chinese smartphone manufacturer, has announced that it will be releasing its own augmented reality (AR) glasses. This move is part of the company’s ongoing expansion into new markets for consumer electronics, including smart TVs, wireless earphones, and smartwatches.
The company claims that this is a user-driven project, with the first AR glasses co-created with the OnePlus community. The company chose five designs from the community and one from Concept Central that received the most votes to be selected. This is not the first time the company has involved its community in the product development process. OnePlus has previously held design competitions for its smartphone accessories.
While the technical details of the OnePlus AR glasses have not been revealed yet, based on renders and prototypes, it is expected that the glasses will feature an integrated camera and adjustable temple tips. These features could potentially make the glasses stand out from the competition.
The tagline for the OnePlus AR glasses is “the entrance between physical and digital worlds.” This suggests that the glasses will aim to bridge the gap between the physical and digital realms, offering users a new and immersive experience.
It is not yet known when OnePlus plans to unveil the AR glasses to the world or when they will be released for sale. However, it is expected that they will be available sometime before the end of 2023. With this move, OnePlus is entering a crowded market for AR glasses, which includes products from companies like Google, Microsoft, and Apple. However, the co-creation aspect with its community may give the OnePlus AR glasses a unique selling point and help them stand out in a competitive market.
