Take Center Stage Canalys’ report sheds light on the growing prevalence of multi-screen smart cockpits in China’s electric vehicle market. During the first quarter of 2023, smart cockpits achieved an impressive adoption rate of 82.7% in China, surpassing the global average of 74.3%. The study highlights the rise of these innovative cockpits as a defining trend that’s reshaping the way drivers interact with their vehicles.
Mainstream joint venture brands, although relatively cautious in their adoption of smart cockpits, still achieved an overall penetration rate of 55.1%. Luxury brands, on the other hand, are leading the charge in integrating multi-screen smart cockpits, with high penetration rates. Notably, the report reveals that a staggering 90% of EVs sold in China’s first quarter of 2023 featured display screens measuring 10 inches or larger. Among these, 12-15.9-inch screens captured a significant 74.1% of the market share.
Insights into Market Dynamics
Canalys‘ analysis further delves into the market dynamics of China’s EV industry. Among the top 10 EV brands in the country, which collectively hold a market share of 70.6%, multi-screen displays are almost ubiquitous. Only a few exceptions, such as Wuling—focused on the entry-level market—and select models from BYD and Chery lack a display screen. Multi-screen displays are more prevalent in domestic EV brands, while luxury marques like Mercedes-Benz and Porsche are also embracing this trend.
A Technological Leap Forward Interestingly, Canalys identifies four brands—SAIC Zhiji, BAIC Arcfox, Cadillac, and NIO—that have taken a technological leap by adopting display screens measuring 18 inches or larger. This reflects the rapid evolution of the EV landscape and the ongoing convergence of the automotive and technology sectors.
