Scheduled to unfold over four weekends in September, the Machine Learning Summer School will span eight comprehensive modules, delving into various crucial aspects of ML technology. Covering topics ranging from Supervised Learning and Deep Neural Networks to Probabilistic Graphical Models and Dimensionality Reduction, the program aims to create a solid foundation in both theoretical concepts and practical applications.
Amazon’s approach stands out for its focus on application-driven learning. It offers participants the chance to not just comprehend theoretical principles but also to gain hands-on experience, readying them to tackle real-world challenges with confidence. The program is designed to blend academic curricula with industry trends, creating a comprehensive learning environment that caters to students with varying levels of machine-learning expertise.
Eligibility and Participation
The Amazon ML Summer School is open to engineering students enrolled in Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD programs at recognized institutes across India. Students who are set to graduate in either 2024 or 2025 are eligible to apply. The selection process includes an online assessment that tests basic ML concepts and mathematical fundamentals related to probability, statistics, and linear algebra.
The top 3000 students who excel in the assessment will be granted the opportunity to participate in the ML Summer School. They will engage in classroom sessions covering the eight modules, followed by live Q&A sessions with Amazon’s distinguished scientists. This interaction will provide valuable insights and foster a collaborative learning environment.
Growth and Impact
The Amazon ML Summer School has shown significant growth since its pilot in 2021. The inaugural program attracted over 3500 students, and the top 300+ performers were selected to join. The success of the first edition led to an expansion in 2022, drawing more than 17,500 registrations from engineering students across India. Among them, a select group of 2880 students were invited to partake.
This year, the program’s impact is poised to grow even further. It will encompass engineering students from various recognized institutions in India, opening its doors to larger class size. By embracing innovative teaching methods, blending academic rigor with practical skills, and enabling direct interaction with industry experts, the Amazon Machine Learning Summer School continues to shape the future of AI talent in India.
