In a significant departure from the remote work trend that gained prominence during the pandemic, two Indian IT giants, Wipro and Infosys, have spearheaded a shift back to office-based work models. This move reflects a global trend of returning to pre-pandemic working norms. Here are the key insights into these policy changes.

Wipro’s Mandatory Hybrid Work Policy:

Wipro has introduced a mandatory hybrid work policy, effective from November 15, 2023.

Employees are required to be physically present in the office for a minimum of three days per week.

The shift towards a hybrid work model aims to enhance face-to-face collaboration, strengthen corporate culture, and improve communication.

Wipro emphasizes the need for employees to be present at their designated office location for at least three days each week, starting from November 15.

The company recognizes the importance of flexibility to accommodate regional variations and local regulations. It plans to engage with employee groups in certain European countries to establish customized rules.

Potential Consequences for Non-Compliance:

Wipro has communicated potential consequences for employees failing to comply with the new work policy, effective from January 7, 2024.

The company highlights the significance of accountability for its overall success.

Risks associated with non-compliance include reduced trust, lower work quality, increased stress, and interpersonal conflicts.

Infosys Mandates Office Presence for Lower-Level Employees:

Infosys is making a substantial policy shift by requiring lower-level employees to return to the office for a minimum of ten days per month, starting from November 20, 2023.

This strategic move is part of Infosys’s effort to strengthen its return-to-office (RTO) approach and embrace a hybrid work model.

The new policy affects employees categorized under band 5 and 6, which includes mid-level managers, project leaders, and entry-level staff.

Infosys introduces the concept of “In Person Collaboration” weeks, during which all employees are required to work from the office.

Significance of Effective Communication and Collaboration:

These policy shifts underscore the importance of effective communication, teamwork, and achieving a balance between remote work and in-person collaboration in an evolving work landscape.

They reflect the recognition that while remote work has its benefits, in-person interactions remain essential for certain aspects of work, including collaboration and teamwork.

The shift towards hybrid work models by Wipro and Infosys reflects the evolving needs of the workforce, acknowledging the value of both remote and in-person work experiences. These changes aim to strike a balance that promotes effective collaboration and a thriving corporate culture while providing flexibility for employees.
