Apple, the US-based iPhone creator, has been expanding its operations in India, according to India’s Minister of Commerce and Industry, Piyush Goyal. The government is in regular touch with the company to aid its business, said Goyal. Apple is known for sourcing various parts to add to its ecosystem.
Apple currently gets iPhones made by electronics giants Foxconn, Wistron, and Pegatron in India. In 2020, the company exported goods worth approximately $5 billion from India, and they plan to have 25% of their global production come from India in the next four or five years.
Apple’s First Retail Store in India
Apple’s first retail store in India will open in Mumbai on April 18, according to reports. The company plans to open its second retail store in Delhi on April 20. Currently, Apple sells its products in India through exclusive Apple Premium Reseller (APR) stores, large format retail chains like Croma and Reliance Digital, multi-brand retail locations, and through e-commerce platforms.
Apple’s Market Share in India
Apple’s market share in India has increased by 17% in shipments year-over-year in 2022, according to CyberMedia Research (CMR). The company currently has over 100 APR stores in India that only sell Apple products.
