Twitter has reinstated the blue verification badge for several high-profile users after it removed them earlier in the week. Celebrities like Amitabh Bachchan, Priyanka Chopra Jonas, and Prakash Raj, among others, took to Twitter to thank the platform for restoring their verified status. Twitter had removed the blue ticks of thousands of well-known individuals, including politicians, celebrities, and journalists, due to its new policy of charging a monthly subscription fee to maintain verification status.

Twitter’s New Verification Policy

Twitter’s new policy requires users to pay a monthly fee of Rs 650 on the web and Rs 900 on mobile devices to maintain their verification status, with an annual plan of Rs 6,800 per year. However, this has received criticism from users, and it’s not clear whether the blue ticks were restored out of goodwill or whether they paid for it.

Reports suggest that Twitter is restoring the verified status for accounts with a high follower count. While there has been no official word from Twitter on the restored blue ticks, the move has brought relief to confirmed account holders who were worried about losing their verification badges.

Elon Musk’s Role in Restoring Blue Ticks

Elon Musk, who bought Twitter for $44 billion in October, has played a role in restoring the blue ticks of several high-profile users. Many famous and influential users have had their blue checks restored, even though they haven’t signed up for the new verification service. This has added another twist to the ongoing blue tick saga on Twitter.

In the US, journalist Matt Binder tweeted that he received his blue tick for free, even though he’s not a Hollywood celebrity. Indian journalist Nidhi Razdan also received her blue tick back, along with Bollywood star Shah Rukh Khan, cricketers Virat Kohli and Sachin Tendulkar, and comedian Vir Das, among others.

Conclusion

Twitter’s move to charge a monthly fee for maintaining verification status has received criticism from users. However, the platform’s decision to restore blue ticks for powerful clients has brought relief to those who were worried about losing their verified status. The role of Elon Musk in restoring blue ticks for several high-profile users has added another twist to the ongoing blue tick saga on Twitter.
