Global consumer electronics and home appliances brand Hisense has officially inaugurated its first manufacturing facility in India, marking a major milestone in the company’s long-term strategy for the Indian market. The new plant has been established through a joint venture with Epack Manufacturing Technologies Private Limited (EMTPL), a wholly owned subsidiary of Epack Durable Limited (EDL).
Located within EDL’s industrial park at Sri City, the facility represents a strategic shift for Hisense—from an import-driven business model to localized manufacturing. This move closely aligns with the Government of India’s “Make in India” initiative, reinforcing the company’s commitment to building a manufacturing-led presence in the country.
Strategic Investment and Manufacturing Infrastructure
The Sri City manufacturing facility has been developed with an investment exceeding USD 30 million and spans a 10-acre campus adjacent to EDL’s existing Original Design Manufacturing (ODM) operations. The location offers strong logistical advantages, skilled workforce access, and proximity to export infrastructure.
Commercial production at the facility is scheduled to begin in February 2026, positioning Hisense to significantly strengthen its supply chain operations within India.
Once fully operational, the plant is designed to manufacture 100% of Hisense India’s Room Air Conditioner (RAC) requirements, reducing reliance on imports while improving cost efficiencies, lead times, and market responsiveness.
Phased Manufacturing Rollout Across Product Categories
Hisense has adopted a phased operational approach for the Sri City facility, allowing for scalable expansion across multiple appliance categories over the coming fiscal years.
Phase 1: Room Air Conditioners (Current Phase)
The first phase focuses exclusively on Room Air Conditioners, with an initial installed capacity of 0.75 million units per year. The facility will manufacture Hisense’s global RAC portfolio, including:
F-Series
Eco Series
Intelli Perla Series
Upcoming Intelli Pro Series
This phase lays the foundation for localized production while ensuring consistency with Hisense’s global quality standards.
Phase 2: Washing Machines (Q2 FY27)
In the second phase, scheduled for Q2 FY27, the plant will expand to include washing machine manufacturing, covering both top-load and front-load models. This diversification will allow Hisense to deepen its footprint in India’s large home appliance segment.
Phase 3: LED Televisions (Q3 FY27)
The final planned phase, expected in Q3 FY27, will extend production capabilities to LED televisions, enabling Hisense to locally manufacture one of its key product categories for the Indian and export markets.
Employment Generation and Economic Impact
The Sri City facility currently employs around 500 people, with Hisense projecting total employment to reach nearly 1,500 professionals over the next 12 to 24 months. Recruitment efforts are already underway across multiple functions, including:
Supply chain and logistics
Finance and administration
Skilled technical and manufacturing roles
Beyond domestic manufacturing, the plant is also positioned to support export-oriented production, leveraging Sri City’s status as a major integrated manufacturing Special Economic Zone (SEZ). This strengthens India’s role as a regional manufacturing and export hub for consumer durables.
Leadership Perspectives on the India Manufacturing Expansion
Commenting on the inauguration, Pankaj Rana, CEO, Hisense India, highlighted the strategic importance of the facility:
“The new facility represents a pivotal step in Hisense’s evolution in India. Sri City allows us to strengthen our local production capabilities while aligning closely with the Make in India mission. This plant enables us to deepen control over quality, cost, and supply chains, while creating a strong platform to scale operations and customize products for Indian consumers. It reinforces our intent to build a locally rooted, manufacturing-led organisation in India.”
Congratulating Hisense India on the milestone, Ajay Singhania, Managing Director & CEO, Epack Durable Limited, emphasized the collaborative strength of the partnership:
“We at Epack Durable are proud to have partnered with Hisense India on its first manufacturing venture in India. This facility is a strong embodiment of the collaboration between Hisense’s technology and Epack Durable’s technical expertise in consumer durables. Adhering to global manufacturing standards, this facility will showcase India’s production capabilities and strengthen the country’s position as a preferred partner for global companies planning long-term expansion.”
Strengthening Hisense’s Long-Term India Strategy
With the inauguration of its first manufacturing facility in Sri City, Hisense has taken a decisive step toward localizing production, strengthening supply chains, and expanding its product ecosystem in India. The phased expansion model, combined with significant employment generation and export potential, positions the company for sustainable growth in one of the world’s fastest-growing consumer durables markets.
As production ramps up over the next few years, the Sri City plant is expected to play a central role in Hisense’s India roadmap, supporting innovation, affordability, and long-term manufacturing excellence under the Make in India vision.
