The UK-based startup, Nothing, has been teasing the details of its upcoming smartphone, Nothing Phone 2, for quite some time now. CEO Carl Pei has been revealing information regarding the device well before the company announced its partnership with chipmaker Qualcomm at MWC 2023.
Recently, the firm teased a clearer launch timeline and shared a portion of the smartphone. Since then, several key specifications and renders of the device have been leaked by tipsters, indicating that the smartphone is headed for a launch soon.
Design and Display
Tipster Sunary Gourkhede (@Tech_Wallah) has shared an artist’s render of the Nothing Phone 2. The render comes from Twitter user Ben Geskin, who created a mockup of the image based on a recent tweet by the brand that revealed a portion of the upcoming device. The image gives a vague idea about how the phone will look, but it is not a leaked image or a render based on leaked specifications.
The rear and front panels of the phone are expected to be made of glass with an aluminum frame sandwiched in between. The device is expected to have a 6.55-inch full-HD+ AMOLED panel with a 120Hz screen refresh rate and an embedded fingerprint reader.
Specifications
According to Gourkhede, the Nothing Phone 2 will be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 SoC and will come with LPDDR5 RAM and UFS 3.1 storage. The phone is expected to pack a 5,000mAh battery with support for fast charging. The device is also rumored to have a 50-megapixel primary camera and two other cameras as part of the rear camera setup.
It is expected to support NFC, WiFi, Bluetooth, 5G radios, and Satellite connectivity, which could work like the Emergency SOS-like feature found on the iPhone 14 series. However, the tipster could simply be referring to regular global positioning systems (GPS) that feature on every smartphone.
Variants
The Nothing Phone 2 is expected to be available in three variants, according to the tipster. The base variant will have 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. The second variant will have 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, with the top-of-the-line variant featuring 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. These appear similar to the currently available Nothing Phone 1 variant.
Launch
Nothing has yet been specified as a launch date for the smartphone. However, the device is expected to launch during the UK summer, which means it could be launched between July and September. It is worth noting that since all the information comes from an unofficial source, it should be taken with a pinch of salt.
Conclusion
Nothing Phone 2 is one of the most anticipated smartphones of the year, and leaks and teasers are only adding to the excitement. While we wait for official information, the leaks suggest that the phone will pack some impressive features and specifications.
The design of the phone is expected to be similar to its predecessor, Nothing Phone 1. The upcoming device is expected to launch soon, and we can’t wait to see what the final product will look like.
