Facebook Messenger has introduced a new feature that allows users to play games with their friends and family while on video calls. The feature is available on the Messenger app for iOS and Android, as well as on the web. Users do not need to download any additional apps to play the 14 free Messenger games available, including Mini Golf FRVR, Card Wars, Words With Friends, and Exploding Kittens.
Meta, the parent company of Facebook, has announced this brand-new shared experience for Facebook Gaming. Players can launch a video call with their friends or family on Messenger and select the group mode button in the middle to access the games. After that, they need to tap the “Play” icon, browse the games library, and pick a game from there. Notably, the games can be accessed by users without installing the app.
Facebook announced this new feature in a blog post recently, stating that multiplayer games can now be played while participating in video calls with friends and family. Although many games can be played with just two people, each game supports a different number of players.
The Facebook app’s ability to access Messenger chats was reportedly being tested by Meta last month. In 2014, the feature was moved to the standalone Messenger app instead of the Facebook app. However, the company intends to allow Facebook users to share content through messages without having to use another app.
The addition of multiplayer games during video calls is a new way for Facebook Messenger users to connect and have fun with their loved ones, especially in times of social distancing. It’s an innovative feature that takes video calls to a new level of engagement, making them more exciting and interactive.
