Ever since Sony launched the PlayStation 5 (PS5) back in late 2020, gamers and tech enthusiasts have been eagerly speculating about the possibility of an upgraded version called the PlayStation 5 Pro. While Sony hasn’t officially confirmed anything about the PS5 Pro, recent rumors and reports have shed some light on the potential specifications of this highly anticipated console. If these leaks are to be believed, the PS5 Pro might take a more GPU-centric approach to deliver enhanced gaming experiences.

Potential Arrival and Speculations

The PlayStation 5 Pro, if it does materialize, is rumored to be released sometime around the end of 2024. While these are all speculations at this point, they offer insights into what gamers might expect if Sony indeed decides to launch an upgraded version of their popular gaming console.

CPU Details

Reports suggest that the PS5 Pro could continue to utilize the AMD Ryzen Zen 2-based Accelerated Processing Unit (APU), which houses both the CPU and GPU components. The CPU is expected to maintain 8 cores and 16 threads, similar to the regular PS5. Interestingly, this could mean that Sony has chosen not to adopt the more advanced AMD Ryzen Zen 4 architecture for the Pro model. While the CPU core count remains the same, leaks indicate that the CPU clock speed could be increased to 4 GHz. This boost in clock speed might help the console achieve the desired frames per second (FPS) targets.

Emphasis on GPU Performance

One of the most significant takeaways from the rumored specifications is the focus on the graphics processing unit (GPU). The PS5 Pro is speculated to feature an increased Render Output Unit (ROP) count, which is responsible for producing the final image on the screen. This boost in ROP count is attributed to the inclusion of 30 active workgroup processors, resulting in a total of 60 compute units. To put this in perspective, the base model PS5 has 64 ROPs, and the Pro version could potentially offer options with 64, 96, or even 128 ROPs. This emphasis on GPU performance suggests that the PS5 Pro might deliver visually stunning and highly immersive gaming experiences.

Memory and Future Prospects

As for memory, leaks point to the PS5 Pro coming equipped with 16GB of GDDR5 memory. While this might not be a massive leap from the base PS5’s memory configuration, it’s worth noting that the true impact of this configuration would depend on how efficiently the console utilizes this memory for gaming tasks.

It’s important to keep in mind that these specifications are based on leaks and rumors, and Sony may make changes or adjustments before the final product is unveiled. As the gaming community eagerly awaits official announcements from Sony, these leaks provide tantalizing insights into what the PlayStation 5 Pro could potentially offer in terms of enhanced gaming performance and graphics capabilities. Stay tuned for more updates and news as the anticipation for the PlayStation 5 Pro continues to build.
