Google Fi, the wireless service provider from tech giant Google, has undergone its third rebranding in its eight-year history and is now known as Google Fi Wireless. To celebrate the new name, Google is adding a smartwatch network, a one-week eSIM trial, and a revamped app for easier setup navigation.
Expanded Smartwatch Support
Plans offered by Google Fi Wireless will now be available for both the Pixel Watch and the Samsung Galaxy Watch5 series. Previously, support was only available on Unlimited Plus and Flexible plans, but now, all smart wearables are eligible for connectivity on the Unlimited plan. These devices can stay connected for free even without a phone.
Free Phone Offer
Users who add a new line to their plan will receive a free phone, including the Samsung Galaxy A14, Google Pixel 6A, or Moto G Power. However, these phones must remain on the plan for the next 24 months, and monthly bill credits will be used to cover the cost of the device. If you opt out early, you’ll have to pay the remaining cost of the phone.
Family-Friendly App
The Google Fi Remote app has been revamped to be more family-friendly, allowing the owner to restrict who can call or text kids within the same group. In the coming months, all users should have access to the redesigned app, which is still being released.
The Google Fi Wireless rebranding comes as the company continues to expand its wireless services and connectivity offerings. As Google Fi Wireless looks to become a more robust wireless carrier, these new features and upgrades are just the beginning of what we can expect from the service in the near future.
