In a significant development for gaming enthusiasts, Battlegrounds Mobile India (BGMI) is rumored to be making a comeback in India, albeit for a temporary period. BGMI, a beloved online multiplayer battle royale game, was banned in India in July 2022 due to concerns related to privacy and safety, particularly its alleged interaction with Chinese servers.
Update: Krafton, the developer of BGMI, recently expressed its gratitude to the Indian Government via social media and hinted at the game’s imminent return. While an official release date is yet to be announced, fans can expect its availability in the country soon.
According to a recent report by News18, the Indian government has reportedly decided to lift the ban on BGMI for a duration of three months. This news brings hope to the devoted BGMI community in India, who have been eagerly awaiting the game’s return.
BGMI’s Temporary Resurgence for 90 Days Before its ban, BGMI had garnered over 100 million registered users in India, making it one of the largest markets for the game. Consequently, the ban triggered an outcry among esports enthusiasts and passionate fans. Despite Krafton’s extensive efforts to restore services in India, the game was removed from both the Google Play Store and Apple App Store, leaving fans disappointed.
However, it seems that Krafton has persisted in its endeavors to revive BGMI in India. According to the News18 report, the ban on the game is likely to be lifted for a period of 90 days, subject to close scrutiny by the Indian government. The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) is expected to issue an order soon, officially permitting the games unban.
The report further reveals that the approval for unban is conditional and contingent on analysis and evaluation by officials from the Ministry of Home Affairs. During this temporary period, the game will be closely monitored to ensure compliance with Indian regulations. Krafton has assured authorities that a built-in timer will be implemented to prevent continuous gameplay. Additionally, the developer has committed to altering the color of blood in the game, as it will now default to a non-graphic hue. Previously, players had the option to change their blood color from red to green or blue.
The news of BGMI’s potential return has also been confirmed by Rushindra Sinha, CEO of Global Esports, in a now-deleted tweet. Sinha cryptically hinted at significant news regarding BGMI’s comeback, indicating unexpected developments. Game industry expert Rishi Alwani corroborated the news, stating that the government has placed conditions on the unban for a 90-day period. Alwani expressed surprise at the delay in the expected unban, which was initially anticipated last month.
However, it is essential to note that neither Krafton nor the government of India has made any official announcements regarding BGMI’s return. It is advisable to treat this information with caution until an official statement is issued.
BGMI enthusiasts and avid gamers eagerly await formal confirmation, hoping for a successful comeback of the beloved battle royale game in India.
