Zomato, the popular food delivery app, has launched a new feature that allows users to add food items from different restaurants to their cart simultaneously. With the introduction of the multi-restaurant cart feature, users can now select and save food items from up to 4 eateries without losing them from the cart. They can then proceed to place an order from one restaurant at a time, followed by the rest.
The process is simple: users can easily shortlist their desired food items from various restaurants and save them in the cart, eliminating the need to search for them again after placing an order from one place. Previously, when users added items from a different restaurant, the app automatically removed the items from the first eatery. However, with the new feature, the items in the cart from different restaurants remain intact, allowing users to place their orders conveniently, one by one.
A spokesperson from Zomato stated, “At Zomato, we are committed to constant innovation and improvement to enhance the customer experience. With this feature, customers can create multiple carts without the need to navigate back and forth across different menus.”
It’s worth noting that this feature is currently not available on Zomato’s competitor, Swiggy. However, similar functionality can be found on other platforms such as PhonePe’s Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC) app called Pincode. Additionally, Rebel Foods, a cloud kitchen unicorn, also offers the ability to add food items from multiple restaurants simultaneously.
In January of this year, Zomato relaunched its Zomato Gold loyalty program, replacing the Pro Plus membership. The Gold membership, priced at Rs 149 for three months, provides free delivery on orders over Rs 199, as long as the restaurant is within a 10 km radius of the user.
Recently, Zomato faced public scrutiny when a viral video surfaced showing a Zomato delivery agent eating food from a plastic bag. Netizens expressed their disappointment with the incident, which was shared on Twitter by IAS officer Awanish Sharan. The post urged people to consider the welfare of food delivery agents. The incident sparked a discussion on social media, with many users expressing their sadness and dissatisfaction with the agent’s actions, emphasizing the importance of acknowledging and appreciating the individuals who serve food 24/7.
As Zomato continues to introduce new features and address challenges, it remains a prominent player in the food delivery industry, aiming to provide a seamless and satisfactory experience for both customers and delivery agents alike.
