MediaTek, a Taiwanese semiconductor company, has announced its latest mid-range processor, the Dimensity 8050, which features an octa-core CPU with four performance Arm Cortex-A78 processors.
The processor is built on the 6nm process node and is similar to the Dimensity 1300 and 1200 in architecture. The Dimensity 8050 supports up to 16GB of LPDDR4x RAM and UFS 3.1 storage, along with quad-channel memory and dual-channel storage.
Powerful performance and graphics for gaming
The Dimensity 8050 chipset has four fast Cortex-A78 cores, including a Super Core that can clock up to 3GHz and three Performance Cores that can reach up to 2.6GHz, along with four efficient Cortex-A55 cores. The SoC is supported by an Arm Mali-G77 GPU with nine cores dedicated to graphics. The chipset boasts a 5G modem and offers “supreme gaming with reliable, fast FPS.”
Full HD+ displays with MiraVision technology
The chipset allows manufacturers the flexibility to design smartphones with Full HD+ displays up to 168Hz or higher resolution QHD+ displays up to 90Hz. The chip also includes MediaTek MiraVision, which provides various HDR video playback and display technologies for a cinema-grade experience.
Camera and video enhancements
The chipset supports 4K video capture, enabling phones to take photos up to 200MP with 20% faster night photography than the previous Dimensity series.

Debut on Tecno Camon 20 Premier
The new chipset has made its debut on the Tecno Camon 20 Premier, which is priced at $450 and is available in Nigeria starting today. The smartphone features a 6.67-inch FHD+ display with a 90Hz refresh rate, 8GB of RAM, and 128GB of internal storage. The device also features a quad-camera setup at the rear with a 64-megapixel primary sensor, a 48-megapixel ultrawide lens, an 8-megapixel telephoto sensor, and a 2-megapixel depth sensor.
With the Dimensity 8050, MediaTek aims to offer a powerful and efficient processor for mid-range smartphones that can enhance the overall user experience, especially for gamers and photography enthusiasts.
