Qualcomm, a renowned semiconductor and telecommunications equipment company, is set to release its newest Snapdragon chipset, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. Following the success of last year’s Snapdragon 8 chips produced by TSMC, expectations are high for this latest iteration. With improved performance and power consumption, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 has helped overcome the series’ reputation in the flagship market, and the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 is expected to build on this success.

New CPU architecture for the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3

According to reports, Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 is now in its final stages of development, and core OEM partners have received early engineering samples for designing end-user phones. One of the major changes in this new chipset is its CPU architecture. For the first time, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 will feature a 1+5+2 architecture, as reported by Digital Chat Station.

This design includes one large core, five large cores, and two small cores, with the model number SM8650. This new architecture replaces one small core with a large core, significantly boosting performance compared to the 1+4+3 architecture of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2.

Advanced GPU and clock speeds for improved performance

The Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 will reportedly have an upgraded Adreno 750 GPU and a large core upgraded to the advanced Cortex-X4, with a maximum frequency of 3.7GHz, which is a significant improvement over the 3.36GHz of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. These improvements are expected to provide users with smoother and more responsive experiences, especially when running demanding applications and games.

Improved performance and power efficiency with upgraded process technology It is likely that TSMC will continue to produce the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, with the process technology being upgraded from N4 to N4P.

Although it does not utilize the more advanced N3 process technology, N4P offers a 6% performance improvement compared to N4. Moreover, N4P reduces the number of mask layers, simplifying the process and accelerating chip production cycles, making it more cost-effective and efficient than N3.

Snapdragon 8 Gen 3’s anticipated benchmark performance and Contenders for first release With the enhanced architecture and process technology, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 is expected to achieve an AnTuTu benchmark performance of around 1.5 million points.

As for which manufacturer will be the first to launch a device featuring the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 platform, contenders include Xiaomi, OnePlus, and Vivo. MediaTek is also preparing to compete with Snapdragon flagship chips with their upcoming flagship chipset Dimensity 9200+.

In conclusion, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3’s advanced architecture, upgraded GPU and clock speeds, and improved process technology offers significant improvements over its predecessor. These improvements are expected to provide a smoother and more responsive experience for users, especially when running demanding applications and games. The competition among manufacturers is expected to intensify as they aim to release the first device featuring this highly anticipated new chipset.
