Samsung Electronics and AMD have recently announced a multi-year agreement extension to bring high-performance AMD Radeon graphics solutions to Samsung Exynos SoCs. This will enable Samsung to offer console-level graphics performance and optimized power consumption to a wider range of mobile devices, delivering a truly immersive and lasting gaming experience.

The partnership between Samsung and AMD began in 2019 when the two companies publicly announced the licensing of the AMD RDNA graphics architecture. This agreement marked a significant milestone in the mobile graphics space, as it allowed Samsung to integrate the latest graphics technology into its Exynos SoCs.

In 2022, Samsung and AMD collaborated on the development of Samsung Xclipse, a mobile GPU based on the AMD RDNA 2 architecture. Xclipse was the industry’s first mobile GPU to feature hardware-accelerated ray tracing and variable rate shading, enabling console-like gameplay on mobile devices. This was a significant achievement, as it marked a major step forward in the evolution of mobile gaming.

With the extension of their agreement, Samsung and AMD are committed to advancing the next generation of Samsung Exynos solutions with multiple generations of high-performance AMD Radeon graphics. This will allow Samsung to offer console-level graphics quality and optimized power consumption to a larger number of mobile devices, providing an extremely immersive and lasting gaming experience.

Seogjun Lee, Samsung’s Executive Vice President of Application Processor (AP) Development, stated that they will continue to drive innovation in the mobile graphics space and draw on their technological expertise to design ultra-low-power solutions. This is a clear indication that Samsung is committed to delivering the best possible mobile gaming experience to its customers.

David Wang, Senior Vice President of the Radeon Technologies Group at AMD, expressed his excitement about the extension of their work with Samsung and the selection of multiple generations of their leadership high-performance Radeon graphics to advance the next generation of Samsung Exynos solutions. He also highlighted the strong technology partnership between the two companies and their commitment to bringing mobile users the best experiences possible.

The integration of high-performance AMD Radeon graphics solutions into Samsung Exynos SoCs is a significant development in the mobile gaming industry. It enables mobile gamers to experience console-level graphics performance and optimized power consumption on a wider range of devices. This is a clear indication of the exciting future that lies ahead for the mobile gaming industry and the continued collaboration between Samsung and AMD to push the boundaries of mobile graphics technology.
