Samsung is set to launch its latest flagship foldable smartphone, the Galaxy Z Fold 5, and rumors and reports have been circulating about its specifications and design. The latest leak suggests that the new foldable phone will feature several upgrades over its predecessor, including a new Droplet hinge mechanism that eliminates the gaps when the device is folded.
Specifications and features
The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 is rumored to feature a 7.6-inch primary inner display and a 6.2-inch outer cover screen, both of which are AMOLED panels that support a 120Hz refresh rate. It is also said to be equipped with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC, making it more powerful than its predecessor.
In terms of the camera setup, the rear of the device will feature a triple camera setup that consists of a 50-megapixel primary sensor with a 12-megapixel ultra-wide-angle lens, and a 10-megapixel periscope lens that supports 3x optical zoom and OIS. The front-facing camera is expected to be a 12-megapixel sensor.
Other notable features of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 include Gorilla Glass Victus 2 and IPX8 rating for added protection, 25W fast charging support, and an under-display camera for selfies. The device is also likely to run on the Android 13 OS-based One UI out of the box.
Release date and availability
The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 is expected to launch around August 2023, so consumers will have to wait a while before they can get their hands on the new foldable device. Nonetheless, this latest leak suggests that the new hinge mechanism and other improvements will make it well worth the wait.
