WhatsApp has introduced a new feature called “Instant Video Messages,” allowing users to record and share short, 60-second personal videos directly within chat conversations. This exciting addition comes after months of testing, and it was officially rolled out to all users after being made available to beta users in June 2023. It’s important to note that this feature is different from regular WhatsApp video calls, as it enables users to send quick, spontaneous video messages.

How to Send Instant Video Messages

Sending an instant video message is easy and intuitive. Here’s a step-by-step guide:

Open a chat: Choose the contact or group you wish to send the video message to.

Switch to video mode: Tap on the camera icon within the chat to switch to video mode.

Record the video: Hold down the record button to start recording your video message. You have a 60-second time limit for each video.

Hands-free recording: If you want to record hands-free, swipe up on the record button to lock the recording. This allows you to continue recording without holding down the button.

Sending the video: Once you’re done recording, release the record button to stop recording. The video will be automatically sent to the recipient.

Playback and Sound

When the recipient opens the video message in the chat, it will play automatically on mute. To hear the audio, they can tap on the video. This way, users have control over when they want to listen to the content. Additionally, video messages are protected with end-to-end encryption, ensuring that your messages remain secure and private.

Not for Pre-recorded Videos

It’s essential to understand that WhatsApp’s Instant Video Messages feature is designed for spontaneous and real-time communication. You cannot send pre-recorded videos using this feature. Instead, it offers a convenient way to respond to chats instantly and share moments with friends and family in a more personal and dynamic manner.

WhatsApp’s Take on Video Messages

WhatsApp believes that video messages will add a new dimension of emotion and authenticity to conversations. Users can express themselves more effectively, whether it’s sending birthday wishes, sharing laughter over a joke, or delivering exciting news. With end-to-end encryption, users can be confident that their video messages will be kept private and secure within the app.

So, next time you’re chatting with friends or family on WhatsApp, try using the Instant Video Messages feature to make your conversations even more engaging and heartfelt. Share your precious moments in a fun and expressive way with this exciting new addition to the popular messaging platform.
