Apple is set to launch its most recent iOS 17 update during the 2023 WWDC. However, a new report suggests that some iPhones and iPads won’t receive the latest update, even though it brings new features and functionality to Apple devices. Here’s a rundown of the devices that will and will not be eligible for the iOS 17 and iPadOS 17 updates.
According to MacRumors, the most recent iOS 17 update will be given to two generations of iPhones that received the iOS 16 update. This means that the iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, and iPhone X won’t be included on the list of eligible devices. On the other hand, the devices that were shipped after these iPhones will be eligible for the iOS 17 update.
The eligible iPhones include the iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, iPhone XR, iPhone 11 series, iPhone 11 Pro series, iPhone 12 series, iPhone 12 Pro series, iPhone 13 series, iPhone 13 Pro series, iPhone 14 series, and iPhone 14 Pro series.
As for iPads, some models will not receive the iPadOS 17 update. If you own an iPad Pro 9.7-inch, 12.9-inch, or fifth-generation iPad, you won’t receive the most recent iPadOS 17 update.
Although the new report refutes previous rumors that the iOS 17 update will primarily focus on stability and efficiency, it is believed that the upcoming update will include some “nice to have” features.
It’s worth noting that the report has not been confirmed, but if true, some iPhone and iPad users will need to upgrade their devices if they wish to continue receiving the latest updates and new features from Apple. The WWDC is scheduled for June 5th, and we can expect to hear more about the upcoming iOS 17, iPadOS 17, and other software updates during the event.
