Tecno has once again pushed the boundaries of smartphone design by unveiling its most ambitious foldable yet—the Phantom Ultimate G Fold. As the successor to the Phantom Ultimate 2 Tri-Fold (introduced in August 2024), this concept device exemplifies the future of mobile innovation, boasting a tri-fold inward design, dual displays, and an ultra-slim body that redefines portability.
Key Highlights
World’s thinnest tri-fold foldable: 11.49mm folded, 3.49mm unfolded
Dual displays with a dedicated cover screen
Massive 9.94-inch main display
Durable Titan Fiber back cover and 2000 MPa high-strength steel hinge
Triple camera setup and a 5,000mAh battery
Design & Build
The Tecno Phantom Ultimate G Fold features a tri-folding inward design that combines elegance with durability. The device measures just 11.49mm when folded and an astonishing 3.49mm when fully unfolded, making it the slimmest tri-fold concept device ever built—even surpassing Huawei’s Mate XT, which comes in at 3.6mm when unfolded.
A dual-hinge mechanism powers the folding system: a smaller waterdrop hinge enables gapless folding on one side, while a larger hinge folds the remaining panel over the top. Tecno’s innovative dual-cam design also supports multi-angle hovering for increased usability in semi-folded positions. The rear shell uses Titan Fiber, only 0.3mm thick, for added strength without added bulk.
Display Technology
The smartphone houses a massive 9.94-inch flexible display when fully extended. In addition to this, it includes a dedicated cover screen—a first for tri-fold foldables—designed to reduce wear and tear on the main screen while improving everyday usability. By contrast, Huawei’s Mate XT offers a single display setup, giving Tecno an edge in this area.
Performance & Camera
While detailed specs about the chipset remain under wraps, Tecno has confirmed that the Ultimate G Fold will sport a robust triple-camera array on the back. Coupled with its futuristic design, the camera setup hints at a powerful flagship-grade experience.
To support the large displays and added functionality, the smartphone packs a 5,000mAh battery—an essential inclusion for heavy multitasking and extended screen time.
Availability & Market Outlook
Tecno will showcase the Phantom Ultimate G Fold at MWC 2026. Since this is a concept model, there is no confirmation on its commercial availability. However, if the device does make it to the mass market, it could arrive at a more competitive price point than Samsung or Huawei, as seen with the Phantom V Fold 2, which launched at Rs 89,990 in India.
Meanwhile, Huawei has already released a commercial tri-fold, and Samsung is expected to follow suit with its Galaxy Z Trifold later this year. Notably, Samsung recently launched the Galaxy Z Fold 7 at Rs 1,74,999.
Conclusion
The Tecno Phantom Ultimate G Fold represents a significant leap in foldable smartphone innovation, delivering futuristic design, cutting-edge engineering, and practical dual-display functionality. While it’s still in the concept phase, it signals Tecno’s intent to compete with industry giants and drive foldable technology into the mainstream. The race to perfect the tri-fold is heating up—and Tecno has made a compelling statement.
