The incident of a Redmi Note 12 Pro smartphone reportedly catching fire in an Indian man’s shirt pocket has raised concerns about the safety of smartphones. This comes after an 8-year-old girl was tragically killed in an alleged Redmi Note 5 Pro explosion in India.
The Incident
In February 2023, Naveen Dahiya, an Indian man, purchased a Redmi Note 12 Pro. However, on April 11, he noticed smoke coming from the phone while it was in his shirt pocket. He immediately felt a burning sensation and found the phone was on fire. Fortunately, he was able to remove the device from his pocket before it could cause any harm to his skin.
Cause of Fire Unknown
The cause of the fire on the Redmi Note 12 Pro is unknown as the phone was not being charged at the time. The phone was completely destroyed by the fire, but Dahiya was unharmed because he was able to throw the burning phone to the ground. However, when he contacted Redmi’s customer service, he received a poor response. He insists that he will file a lawsuit against Redmi if he does not receive a satisfactory response.
Official Response Needed
Given that there may be a risk of fire in other units, it is expected that Redmi will develop an official response to this incident. Redmi will need to investigate the matter to ensure the safety of Redmi Note 12 Pro users.
Precautions to Take
This incident serves as a reminder to users that malfunctioning smartphones can be dangerous. As a result, it is important to always take precautions to avoid fires. Users are advised against overcharging smartphones and placing them in extremely hot environments.
