Artificial Intelligence (AI) is the latest buzz in the Indian job market, with the demand for AI talent increasing by 11% in the last six months alone. Several industries such as IT, retail, telecom, BFSI, advertising, and market research are driving the demand for AI professionals in the country, according to a report by foundit (previously Monster India & APAC).

AI, Machine Learning, and Data segments are projected to emerge as the top job creators, leading to a 22% churn in the Indian job market over the next five years. The IT sector is leading with 29% of AI-driven job roles, followed by advertising, market research, and PR at 17% and retail at 11%.

Game Changer for Employment Opportunities

The rise of technology such as ChatGPT is a game changer in the tech world. AI is expected to create newer job roles and increase employment opportunities, said Sekhar Garisa, CEO, foundit. Despite the high demand for AI-related job roles, there is a lack of skilled talent in the market, resulting in a setback in hiring.

The challenge is that while new talent is emerging in the market, organisations are finding it hard to find a candidate who fits the job’s right profile. The top ten in-demand jobs and skills in India are software engineers, data engineers, data scientists, python developers, marketing analytics consultants, AWS data architects, machine learning engineers, AI product managers, BI developers, and content curators/proofreaders.

Upskilling: The Long-term Investment for Career Progression

AI and automation are acting more as catalysts than threats for professionals in the industry. It is essential to keep up with emerging trends, and new learnings, as every role becomes obsolete beyond a certain period. Therefore, upskilling is a long-term investment for career progression, said Garisa.

In conclusion, the Indian job market is witnessing a growing demand for AI-driven roles, creating newer job opportunities. The key challenge is to build a skilled workforce to cater to this demand. Upskilling is the need of the hour to bridge the gap between the talent required and the talent available. AI is a catalyst that will drive job growth, providing a boost to the Indian economy.
