The government of Delhi is set to install 100 electric vehicles (EV) charging stations by the end of July 2023. The charging stations will be located at various metro stations, bus depots, and other locations throughout the national capital. The government’s flagship initiative to strengthen Delhi’s EV charging infrastructure aims to provide a great and easy-to-use charging infrastructure in every part of the city.

According to Delhi Power Minister Atishi, 50 charging stations will be ready by the end of April, and 100 will be completed by the end of July. She instructed officials to ensure the work is completed within the allotted timeframe. Atishi also mentioned that the cost of charging each unit will be the lowest in the country and the world, charging just Rs. 3 per unit.

This effort is part of the Delhi government’s efforts to make Delhi emerge as the country’s electric vehicle capital. The government has also issued the largest tender in this field in the nation, establishing all the charging stations using a public-private partnership (PPP) model.

The demand for electric vehicles has increased rapidly in recent years, with electric vehicles accounting for 16.7% of all vehicles sold in the capital in December 2022, the highest percentage in the nation. By strengthening the charging infrastructure, the government aims to ensure that people have enough charging stations available around them and do not face any problems related to charging.
