IDC Report: India's PC Market Faces 6.6% Decline in 2023; HP Leads, Lenovo Trails, Dell Witnesses Steep Drop

India’s traditional PC market, encompassing desktops, notebooks, and workstations, reported a 6.6% year-over-year decline in 2023, shipping 13.9 million units, according to the International Data Corporation (IDC). While the desktop category experienced a 6.7% year-over-year growth, notebooks and workstations faced declines of 11.1% and 14%, respectively.

Overall Decline: India’s traditional PC market, comprising desktops, notebooks, and workstations, experienced a 6.6% year-over-year decline in 2023, shipping 13.9 million units.

Category-wise Performance:

Desktop Growth: The desktop category showed resilience with a 6.7% year-over-year growth.

Notebook and Workstation Decline: Notebooks and workstations faced challenges, declining by 11.1% and 14% year-over-year, respectively.

Challenges Amidst Low Market Sentiments: Reduced consumer demand post-pandemic led to a significant shipment correction in the second half of 2022 and the first half of 2023.

Recovery in Second Half: Despite challenges, the PC market rebounded in the second half of 2023, witnessing a robust 12.9% year-over-year growth.

Fourth Quarter Performance: The fourth quarter of 2023 recorded an 11.4% year-over-year growth, driven by positive performances in both desktops (16.8% year-over-year) and notebooks (9.9% year-over-year).

Market Share Details:

HP Dominates: HP emerged as the market leader, securing a 31.5% share in 2023. The company excelled in both the commercial (33.6%) and consumer (29.4%) segments.

Lenovo in Second Place: Lenovo secured the second spot with a 16.7% share. Despite facing a 17.8% year-over-year decline in shipments, it held a significant position in the enterprise segment.

Dell Technologies: Dell Technologies stood third with a 15.5% share, experiencing a steep 24.5% year-over-year decline. It held the second position in the commercial segment.

Category-wise Leader: HP continued to lead in both the desktop (25.1%) and notebook (33.8%) categories, showcasing its dominance in key segments.
