Google Calendar, a popular scheduling and productivity tool, is introducing a new enhancement to its working location feature, aiming to provide users with greater flexibility and improved productivity. This update comes as hybrid work environments continue to rise, with individuals working from various locations throughout the day. By allowing users to set specific working locations for different times of the day, Google Calendar enables them to better manage their schedules and optimize their workflow.
A Step Forward in Location Management
Since 2021, Google Calendar has allowed users to indicate their general working location. However, the latest update takes it a step further by allowing users to set working locations for specific portions of the day. This enhancement enables users to accurately reflect their availability based on their physical location at different times, ensuring effective collaboration and planning.
Beneficial for Delegates and Administrators
The new working location feature also benefits users with delegate access to someone’s Google Calendar, such as executive assistants managing multiple calendars. They can now edit working locations for the entire day or specific time periods, providing them with more control and flexibility in managing schedules.
Administrators can customize the feature’s availability at the domain or organizational unit level, offering greater control over its implementation. While the feature is enabled by default for end users, administrators have the option to enable or disable it according to their organization’s needs.
Easy Implementation and Usage
To set working locations within Google Calendar, users can select “Working Location” as an event type and choose the desired location. They also have the option to modify the time, date, or recurrence to accurately reflect their schedules. This seamless integration allows users to easily incorporate their location preferences into their calendars for efficient planning.
Rollout and Availability
The rollout of the enhanced working location feature has already begun, with rapid-release domains gaining immediate access. Scheduled release domains will receive the update starting on July 14, 2023. The feature is available to users of various Google Workspace editions, including Business Standard, Business Plus, Enterprise Standard, Enterprise Plus, Education Fundamentals, Education Standard, Education Plus, the Teaching and Learning Upgrade, and Nonprofits.
Embracing Hybrid Work Environments
With the introduction of the enhanced working location feature, Google Calendar recognizes the evolving nature of work and the importance of adaptability. By empowering users to accurately reflect their working locations throughout the day, Google Calendar aims to enhance productivity and facilitate seamless collaboration in today’s dynamic work environments.
