The highly anticipated release of the Pixel 8 series is drawing near, with recent leaks and historical launch patterns hinting at an imminent debut. Google is poised to unveil its new Pixel lineup at the upcoming Hardware Event this fall. While hardware upgrades are anticipated, the software aspect is also poised for a boost, with exciting features making their way to the Pixel 8. Alongside the expected improvements in the latest Android iteration, Google is gearing up to introduce a revamped version of its renowned Google Camera app, complete with a fresh User Interface (UI).
Revamped UI for Pixel 8’s Google Camera
According to a recent report by Android Authority, Google is implementing a significant change by relocating all camera controls to the bottom of the app’s UI. This move is designed to enhance accessibility and ease of use for in-app features.
The settings button has shifted from its previous position at the top to the bottom-left corner, now also accessible through a swipe-up gesture. Although the Settings Panel retains its original appearance, the black bar at the bottom now accommodates additional modes and features that facilitate convenient one-handed usage. Users can now effortlessly switch between Video and Photo modes from the bottom bar adjacent to the Settings icon.
Screenshots showcasing the new Camera UI reveal a range of modes such as Action Pan, Portrait, Long Exposure, Photo, Night Sight, and Panorama. For Video Mode, specialized modes like Pan, Blue, Video, Slow Motion, and Time Lapse are available.
Changes in button placement are also evident, with the camera switch button now situated on the right side and the last shot preview on the left. The zoom switcher appears above the shutter button, though other elements remain consistent.
While features like Long Exposure and Action Pan aren’t new, they previously existed under the Motion tab. Now, dedicated tabs are assigned to each of these functions. Additionally, the “Cinematic Pan” stabilization mode has been simplified to “Pan.”
Other Software Enhancements for Google Camera in Pixel 8 Beyond the UI enhancements, the updated version is expected to introduce Staggered HDR and Segmentation AWB features. Staggered HDR will reduce capture time by introducing minimal delays between frames. The Segmentation AWB feature will enhance post-processing for specific portions of images, leading to improved accuracy and visual appeal.
Another valuable addition is the Adaptive Torch feature, designed to optimize low-light photography by automatically adjusting flash intensity.
