Samsung Display has introduced a groundbreaking foldable laptop concept at MWC 2025, named the Flexible Briefcase. As the name suggests, this futuristic device not only serves as a powerful laptop but also transforms into a sleek, portable briefcase when folded. Designed with innovation in mind, the device features an 18.1-inch QD-OLED display with QHD+ resolution, promising a seamless blend of functionality and mobility.
A Laptop That Folds Like a Briefcase
Unlike conventional foldable laptops, the Flexible Briefcase stands out due to its unique design, incorporating a dual-handle briefcase-like exterior. These handles meet in the center when folded, giving it the appearance of a stylish, modern briefcase. Beyond aesthetics, this design enhances portability, making it easier to carry while offering a powerful computing experience.
To add more convenience, Samsung has also integrated power and volume buttons within the housing, ensuring easy access when the device is both folded and unfolded.
Stunning QD-OLED Display with Foldable Technology
When unfolded, the 18.1-inch QD-OLED panel takes center stage, delivering a resolution of 2000 x 2664 pixels with a pixel density of 184 PPI. Though slightly lower than the 212 PPI panel found in the Galaxy Book4 Ultra, this display still offers sharp visuals, vibrant colors, and deep contrasts—ideal for both professionals and content creators.
One of the most notable aspects of the display is its 4.5R folding radius, ensuring smooth folding and durability while maintaining optimal usability. This innovation could redefine how users interact with foldable screens in the future.
A Vision for the Future of Laptops
While the Flexible Briefcase remains a prototype, its unveiling follows Samsung’s long-standing efforts to develop next-generation foldable laptops. The company had previously filed patents in 2022 for a dual-folding laptop concept, and even showcased an earlier prototype called Flex Note, which shares similarities with the Flexible Briefcase.
Samsung isn’t the only player exploring innovative laptop designs. Other brands, such as Lenovo, have experimented with solar-powered laptops, showcasing a concept that offers one hour of video playback after just 20 minutes of direct sunlight charging.
Will Samsung’s Foldable Laptop Become a Reality?
At this stage, there’s no official confirmation on whether Samsung will bring the Flexible Briefcase to the market as a commercial product. However, given Samsung’s commitment to foldable display technology—as seen in its Galaxy Z Fold and Flip series—the chances of seeing a consumer-ready foldable laptop in the near future seem promising.
For now, the Flexible Briefcase represents an exciting glimpse into the future of computing, where portability and innovation converge to redefine traditional laptop designs.
