China-based phone makers are the biggest brands in India that contribute to the economy. The report says banning of selling phones that are priced below Rs. 12000 in the country. Bloomberg’s report cited that government officials claim that it’s planning to introduce restrictions to Chinese OEMs in the country so as to promote homegrown brands to establish a stronger base. However, now, another report claims that such bans are not planned to enforce in the country.
Contribution of Chinses OEMs to India:
Even if government plans to ban smartphones, initiating the plan in the country would be a challenging task. Most industry experts also state that the 3/10 smartphones sold in India are priced under Rs. 12000 and Chinese OEMs contribute close to 78% of the Indian smartphone market. Meanwhile Apple.Inc and Samsung contribute another 22%.
The top-most brands – Xiaomi, Realme, and Vivo account for major contributions to India and also have made their investments in setting up assembly facilities in India.
Bloomberg report earlier stated that selling smartphones below Rs. 12000 would be lowering the standards but for now, it is put on hold. So far, Chinese OEMs have taken over Indian market competition in the past 6 or 7 years. Moving forward, it’s a question of whether government enforces such action to encourage Indian brands back to life.
