Apple is considering expanding the eSIM-only variation of its iPhone 15 series to more nations when it releases in 2023. As per reports, Apple launched the first-ever eSIM iPhone 14 models last year, which lack a physical SIM slot, only in the United States. This year’s iPhone 15 series is anticipated to include support for eSIM-only iPhones in France and other European countries.
eSIM technology has been available for a while now, and numerous premium device manufacturers have been integrating it into their devices for customers in all markets. eSIM technology essentially provides a digital SIM registration for a new mobile number, and telcos are working hard to simplify the process of obtaining an eSIM. However, in countries like India, eSIM adoption is still low, and it will be a while before we see the technology in mid-range devices.
Apple is expected to launch the iPhone 15 series this year as per their usual September schedule. The company is said to be working on four rumored variants, including the vanilla model, Plus, Pro, and Pro Max. Some reports suggest that the Pro Max variant might be called the Ultra, but it is unlikely to happen.
According to some sources, all iPhone 15 models will feature the Dynamic Island notch, while the Pro models will still have the ProMotion high-resolution refresh rate screen. While Apple launched eSIM-only variations of its iPhone 14 models in limited markets last year, it seems like the company is looking to expand its availability in more countries, allowing users to switch carriers more easily. However, it is unlikely that eSIM-only variations will be launched in countries with low eSIM adoption rates.
