Samsung is set to launch its Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Galaxy Z Flip 5 foldable phones in the second half of 2023, and reports suggest that the launch may be earlier than expected. According to an IT Home report, the hinges for the foldable phones will enter mass production in June, suggesting that the phones may be released by the end of July at the Unpacked 2023 event.
The upcoming Z Fold 5 and Z Flip 5 are expected to feature a new hinge design, replacing the current U-shaped hinge with a water-drop design. This new hinge design is expected to reduce the gap between the panels when folded, similar to the hinge design used in OPPO’s Find N2 and Find N2 Flip phones.
The Z Fold 5 and Z Flip 5 are also said to come equipped with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC, featuring 12GB of RAM for the Z Fold 5 and 8GB of RAM for the Z Flip 5. Both phones will come with Android 13 pre-installed and the latest One UI 5 update on top.
The Galaxy Z Fold 5 is expected to feature a 7.6-inch 120Hz AMOLED display with a 2K resolution, and a 6.2-inch hole-punched cutout in the top center of the cover display. The triple rear camera setup is said to include a 50MP main camera, a 12MP ultrawide camera, and a 10MP telephoto camera, with a 10MP front camera for selfies. The phone is expected to be water resistant with an IPX8 rating, and feature a 4400mAh battery with support for 45W fast charging and 15W wireless charging. The S Pen is also said to be in line for a spot.
Meanwhile, the Z Flip 5 is expected to feature a massive 3.4-inch cover display with dual cameras, including a 12MP main camera and a 12MP ultra-wide camera. The foldable phone that looks like a clamshell will also have a Full HD+ resolution 6.7-inch foldable AMOLED display. The battery life of the Z Flip 5 is currently unknown.
At launch, the Z Flip 5 is expected to be available in Beige, Grey, Light Green, and Light Pink, while the Z Fold 5 will be available in Black and Light Blue. With new hinge designs and upgraded specifications, Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Z Flip 5 are shaping up to be impressive additions to the foldable phone market.
