The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has officially introduced AIKosha, a secure and centralized platform aimed at accelerating artificial intelligence (AI) innovation in India. Designed as an AI development hub, AIKosha provides access to over 300 datasets, 80+ AI models, and multiple AI use cases, fostering an environment for cutting-edge AI research and applications.

 

AIKosha: A Secure AI Development Platform

AIKosha serves as India’s first large-scale AI repository, offering an integrated development environment with an AI sandbox, tools, and tutorials for developers. The platform is built with stringent security measures, including:

 

AI readiness scoring for evaluating datasets.

Permission-based access to ensure data privacy.

Data encryption for securing sensitive information.

Secure APIs and real-time firewalls for safe AI development.

 

This initiative aligns with India’s broader AI growth strategy by enhancing accessibility, fostering innovation, and encouraging responsible AI use.

Key Initiatives Under the IndiaAI Mission

The launch of AIKosha was part of several initiatives announced by Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw at the anniversary event of the IndiaAI Mission in New Delhi on March 7, 2025. These initiatives include:

 

AIKosha: IndiaAI Datasets Platform

A centralized AI hub designed to promote secure and unbiased AI solutions using high-quality datasets and AI models.

 

AI Compute Portal

A dedicated AI infrastructure aimed at providing scalable computing power for AI research and startups. Key highlights include:

 

10,000 GPUs in the initial rollout, with an additional 8,693 GPUs planned.

 

Subsidized AI computing services, offering up to 40% discounts for startups, researchers, and enterprises.

 

Support for advanced AI hardware, including NVIDIA H100, H200, A100, L40S, L4, AMD MI300x, 325X, Intel Gaudi 2, and cloud-based AI computing from AWS Tranium and Inferentia.

 

AI Competency Framework for Public Sector Officials

A program designed to equip government officials with AI skills, ensuring data-driven policymaking and effective AI governance.

 

iGOT-AI Mission Karmayogi

An AI-powered learning platform that delivers personalized training recommendations to public officials, enhancing governance efficiency.

 

IndiaAI Startups Global Acceleration Program with Station F

A four-month accelerator program for 10 Indian AI startups, featuring:

 

One-month online training

Three-month on-site mentorship at STATION F, Paris

Access to European AI markets for global expansion

 

IndiaAI Application Development Initiative

A program supporting AI-powered solutions in key sectors, such as:

 

Healthcare

Climate change

Governance

Agriculture

Education and Learning Disabilities

 

Out of 900 AI solution submissions, 30 have been shortlisted for further development.

 

IndiaAI FutureSkills

A nationwide initiative focused on AI skill development, including:

 

AI fellowships for undergraduate and postgraduate students.

 

Establishing AI Data Labs in Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities.

 

Training programs for Data Annotators and Data Curators across healthcare, education, manufacturing, and agriculture.

 

Ministerial Insights and India’s AI Roadmap

Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw emphasized that AIKosha and the AI Compute Portal are transformative steps in India’s AI landscape. He highlighted:

 

India ranks #1 globally in AI skill penetration and is among the Top 10 AI nations worldwide.

 

The Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) framework ensures ethically sourced and consent-based datasets, reducing reliance on synthetic and foreign data.

 

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s AI and semiconductor vision aims to position India among the Top 5 AI nations globally.

 

MeitY Secretary S. Krishnan noted that the AI Compute Portal is the largest component of the IndiaAI Mission, consuming 45% of the mission’s ₹10,372 crore budget. He highlighted AI’s crucial role in Viksit Bharat 2047, driving economic growth across key sectors.

 

IndiaAI Mission: Strengthening AI Development

Launched in March 2024, the IndiaAI Mission is structured around seven core pillars to establish a strong AI ecosystem:

 

IndiaAI Compute – Expanding AI infrastructure and resources.

IndiaAI Datasets Platform – Ensuring high-quality, unbiased data access.

IndiaAI Application Development Initiatives – Encouraging AI-driven innovations.

IndiaAI FutureSkills – AI education and workforce development.

IndiaAI Innovation Center – Supporting AI research and startups.

IndiaAI Startup Financing – Providing financial assistance to AI entrepreneurs.

Safe & Trusted AI – Implementing ethical AI practices and security frameworks.

 

Major AI Developments Under IndiaAI

 

67 proposals have been submitted for developing indigenous foundation models.

An AI Safety Institute is being established to ensure responsible AI deployment.

Eight AI projects have been approved under the Safe & Trusted AI initiative.

 

Additional AI-Focused Initiatives

Last month, Ashwini Vaishnaw also introduced:

 

The IndiaAI Innovation Challenge, which received 900 submissions for high-impact AI applications.

AI fellowships for students from IITs, NITs, IIITs, and other premier institutes.

IndiaAI Data Labs in smaller cities, offering AI-focused education across key industries.
